Meta built a humanoid prototype with China’s Fourier, The Information reports

One of the world’s biggest AI companies is testing what its assistant could look like with a body.

Published November 2, 2026

Meta Platforms has built a prototype humanoid robot with the Chinese robotics company Fourier, according to The Information 1. As summarized by Rockingrobots, the robot is called Max, stands about 1.5 meters tall, weighs about 48 kilograms and took about three months to build; a second version began development in September 2.

The reported design includes five-fingered hands, chest speakers and a facial display, with targets for voice recognition from up to five meters, gesture recognition and eye contact. Those are development goals, not tested capabilities 2. A Meta spokesperson said the work with Fourier is for internal research and that Meta has no plans to sell the current units 2.

What it means for a family. The report frames Max as part of Meta’s effort to build AI-powered robots for the home, and as a possible body for its AI assistant 2. Nothing here is for sale, and nobody has shown it doing housework. But the company behind assistants that already talk to millions of people is now asking the question families will face next: what happens when the voice that listens gets a body and a face. The Tireless Parent starts exactly there; our Home Humanoid Registry tracks which humanoids have actually reached buyers.
